Our South Beach Vacation

Our Miami, South Beach vacation was fabulous. We all had a wonderful time. It rained a lot the first two days we were there, because of tropical storm Noel. We took our kids trick or treating at the shops on Lincoln Avenue. This street is supposed to be the place to be, if your in South Beach during Halloween. Needless to say, the kids received a ton of candy and they had a blast. I was enjoying all of the people and the very creative costumes many of them were wearing. I've never seen so many beautiful men and women walking around one area, in all of my life. Many of them looked as if they walked right out of a fashion magazine.
The food was excellent. We just loved the Cuban cuisine. We chose to eat Cuban food often while we were there, accompanied by the delicious Mojitos, which seemed to go down quite easily.
One day we took a ride down to Key Largo. We snorkeled first, then hiked through the mangrove trails off the beach. It was a picture perfect day. Later that same day, we ate some conch fritters, which I absolutely love, at a cute fish shack not far from the beach.
One night me and my hubby decided to hire a babysitter. What a fun night we had. We started our evening off with a few Mojitos at the Delano, a very high end hotel that many celebrities stay at. I've displayed a photo of the Delano above. We then had a delicious meal at "A Fish Called Avalon" located on Ocean drive. After dinner we finished our evening off with a night cap at this fun club called "Mango's," which is also on Ocean drive. Even though the evening was very expensive, it was well worth it.
Now that I'm back in New york state, My daughter has caught a terrible cold, it's freezing here and very dreary outside. I'm just praying for a ray of sunshine to peak out of the clouds to brighten my mood. Since I've never been a fan of cold weather, days like today make me seriously think about moving down south.

Hi Lydia,

your report sounds as if you had a very good time. The name of the restaurant, "Fish of Avalon", very promising.

Will you show some of the shells you collected on the beach?

I remember that I loved Miami when I went there a long time ago, in 1967/1968, especially Coconut Grove. Probably it has changed a lot since then.

Hi Olivia, Yes, we had a great time and the restaurant we went to, was out of this world. I do intend on taking photos of my latest shell collection and writing a brief post about them. then it's back to the good old recipes again. I did see a little of coconut grove and what I saw of it was absolutely gorgeous!

Hi Dave, Your very welcome. I think you would love it down there. There's so much to do, but at the same time you can just choose to do nothing at all, but relax at the beautiful beaches.

What a dreamy getaway. Are you still sporting a holiday tan? Did you bring back lots of "things" to feed your creative soul with?

Lydia said...

Hello Amber, we had a lot of fun. thank you

Hello Linda, I did get a tan. I kept it lighter than I would have years ago. I wore a sunscreen of 10 while laying out, but still got a tan. Years ago, I use to slather on tanning oils with no sunscreens, while visiting the tropics. I'm now awaiting my punishment for all that sunbathing I did in the past. I did get a lot of neat shells and coral while at the beach. I would like to take a photo of them for my next post.

What fun! Glad you had a good time. Hope you post some pictures of your adventures...

I'm sorry your daughter is sick. There have been lots of things going around. Seems too early in the season for it. So far, we've been cool but sunny - but I guess there is rain in the forecast for Monday. Glad to see you back.

Hi Sue, My daughter's doing much better now. She did miss a few days of school though. I'm glad to hear the weather is still decent in your parts. I'm hoping to put a nice photo of all the shells I collected from my vacation on my blog soon.

Hi Jan, Thank you, we had a wonderful time, even though tropical storm noel brought some high winds into Miami the first two days, along with some rain. After that the weather was picture perfect. I'm going to be posting some new recipes very soon.

Hello Oehalim, Thank you, we all had a lot of fun. Now it's back to reality for me.

Isn't the Delano fab? I was there about 7 years ago and during a walk on the beach we accidentally walked through the hotel from the beach side - that dark wood, flowing lofty white curtains, such style!

We were staying down the beach at the Loews, which was nice too, but, wow!
